    If you’re already a shared owner of your home (whether it’s a new build or resale property) you can buy a bigger share of your home. This is called ‘staircasing’ and the bigger the share, the less rent you pay us.

    Some of the benefits of staircasing include:

    • You will pay less rent on your home.
    • If you decide to sell your home you will have more equity (i.e. more money from the sale) if your home has gone up in value.
    • If you own your home outright you will have more flexibility in how you sell it (although your lease may still give One Housing first refusal to buy it from you).
