Our push for gender equality has earnt us a finalist’s place at the Women in Housing Awards. We’ve been shortlisted for the Employer of the Year prize, which recognises commitment to building a culture and environment where women can thrive and prosper.

Our push for gender equality has earnt us a finalist’s place at the Women in Housing Awards. We’ve been shortlisted for the Employer of the Year prize, which recognises commitment to building a culture and environment where women can thrive and prosper.

The plaudit follows a year in which our new plans and targets to achieve equal representation across the business delivered impressive results.

Women now make up 50% of both our Group Board (pictured) and Executive Team – that’s up from 8% and 0% respectively just 18 months ago.

But we also want to ensure that this shift is sustainable. Notably, our ‘Women in Leadership’ programme is helping the next generation of aspiring managers and leaders to step up.

Fittingly, the first cohort began the oversubscribed programme on International Women’s Day. With a wide range of content delivered in flexible formats, the programme encourages women to learn at their own level and pace. There are currently 69 women on the programme, with another 30 waiting to start.

All this work stems from the creation in 2018 of our new set of values – led by staff and designed to underpin everything we do. Valuing diversity is among those five values.

2019 saw a record number of entries to the Women in Housing Awards, which celebrate the outstanding work of women across the sector. This year’s ceremony will take place in Manchester on 10 October.
