Loss of heating at Kelson House, Isle of Dogs

We're aware of the heating failure at Kelson House. Unfortunately we're unable to access the plant room to fix the boiler due to a health and safety risk in the room. Works to make the plant room safe will be completed on Tuesday 23 October, we will then access the room on Wednesday 24 October to remedy the boiler.

We are providing temporary heaters to all households but we need to limit this to two per households. Please contact us on 0300 123 9966 to request these and we will deliver these to you as soon as possible.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience that this issue may have caused and continues to cause.

Bankhouse residents enjoy an afternoon of Opera

Bankhouse residents at our Season’s senior living scheme spent an afternoon watching a live Opera performance by three professional Italian Opera singers last Friday (13 April 2018).

The singers represent the national tour scheme Opera in Care Homes, commissioned by a charity, Healthpitch, led by Camilla Vickers who are doing a national tour across different care schemes, community day centres and hospices, providing Opera plays with the help of professional Opera singers. Camilla strongly believes in music being therapeutic to people, especially elderly residents in care homes.

Our residents really enjoyed themselves and even took part in the engaging performance by signing along. 82-year-old Francis even helped out the performances by being a conductor and orchestrating a section, with the performers singing and improvising, according to her baton-swinging actions. Francis commented, “My husband and I are glad that we came to enjoy this afternoon. It was really good.”

A number of guests attended, including the local Deputy Mayor of Lambeth, Guilherme Rosa and representatives of the Australian study group for elderly care, SAGE. The guests interacted with our residents and staff, and also with the Opera singers, following the performance over tea and canapes. The Mayor said: “I’m truly impressed with the show. It was very positive and inspiring.” He engaged with the residents, asking about their wellness and even assisted the care staff with some residents.

A number of our other care schemes; Protheroe, Rosebank Park and Millcroft will open their doors to opera singers over the next two weeks and we hope to bring in other similar projects to brighten our residents’ lives.
