Watch them grow!

25 Sep 2020

Whilst the pandemic has limited activities across the country, green-fingered residents at our Camden based care and support scheme have been busy growing their own fruit and vegetables.

As part of their role, our dedicated key workers help the residents to lead healthy and engaging lives but found themselves with limited options for activities since the arrival of covid-19.

When restrictions were first eased and garden centres given the go-ahead to reopen, Sarah, Care Home Manager, looked to make the most of their nearby centre: “It was a new thing that we decided to do and due to covid-19 restrictions, it was one of the safest places to attend… We bought a corn plant that is now growing in the garden and took it from there”.

The fun doesn’t stop there. The residents are actively involved in the daily menu planning, as Sarah explains: “Our cook will incorporate things grown in the garden into the meals for the residents – for example last week they used the home grown tomatoes to make a delicious salad that accompanied lunch. We also have fresh mint, and many other herbs, that are used daily in the sauces that the cook prepares”.

The scheme provides support to 13 adults with complex mental health needs and our team of care staff work together with the residents to provide a range of  activities to help develop their life skills.
